FISH ON!!

We took the kids camping for the first time last weekend, more on that a little later! The campsite was right on a river so my huz picked up a couple of fishing poles for the the wee ones. T.'s was Batman ,of course! Layla's was princess. My son patiently waited for days to go fishing. For a week that's all I heard, after breakfast, after bath, after school - fishing now, mom???On Sat., Dad handed over the mysterious and splendid Batman fishing pole. T was in awe. He knew it was a fishing pole but had no idea what that meant or what it did. AND, the coolest part of all, it came with a Batman tackle box (attached to his shorts)!! It was loaded with surprises - a heavy plastic fish weight?, squishy squiggly worms (bait?), and a handy dandy key chain flashlight. Layla wasn't nearly as impressed with the fishing gear.
It took a while for the boy to figure out what to do with this wondrous gift. What? Buttons, release, real it in??

They finally got the hang of it! The huz ignored my plea, shrugged off my concerns and attached gigantic extraordinarily sharp hooks to the end of my sweet babies' poles. I was hovering over them, monitoring every move they made and nervously ordering them to "BE STILL and DON'T MOVE". The response from my children - L, "Just relax, MOM!" T, " MOM, LEAVE ME ALONE FOR A MINUTE!"

Despite the gigantic hooks, my kids didn't catch a fish. My huz, on the other hand, did. Can you see how excited my son was?

It was absolutely gorgeous!

Eventually, the tots realized that fishing isn't nearly as much fun as playing in the mud and throwing rocks into the water.

T. came away from this experience with a love for .... his Batman tackle box. He hasn't put it down since.

I LOVE the last shot. What a sweetie! Can't wait to hear about your camping trip! We LOVE LOVE LOVE fishing, but it's usually done on Pawpaw's boat at the coast. Mia likes to fish. She hasn't really caught anything, yet. Although, Pawpaw did salt the line by attaching a little croaker the we usually use as bait to the end of her line while she wasn't looking. She was THRILLED!

oh, his tackle box ROCKS! Mia got a Barbie rod from Pawpaw. He took off the fake fish and added a huge and sharp hook. We're just all very careful ;) ok. I could talk about fishing for days.....
